Danish Research Institute for Suicide Prevention

The main purpose of the Danish Research Institute for Suicide Prevention (DRISP) is to promote suicide prevention through research-based studies, dissemination, and implementation. DRISP conducts evidence-based research, monitors developments in suicide attempts and suicides in Denmark, and develops educational materials for suicide prevention. DRISP also monitors the initiatives in the national action plan for suicide prevention in Denmark.

At the Danish Research Institute for Suicide Prevention (DRISP), we are a team of dedicated and committed researchers united by one purpose: to contribute knowledge that can help reduce the number of suicides, support anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts, and make DRISP a resource that the healthcare system and society can rely on in matters of suicide prevention.

Our main objectives are:

  • to promote suicide prevention through research-based studies;
  • to disseminate this research, and;
  • to work to ensure that our knowledge is implemented in practice.

About this website

At DRISP, we conduct evidence-based research and monitor developments in suicide attempts and suicides in Denmark. We also develop educational material that can be used in suicide-prevention training. In addition, we monitor the initiatives outlined in the national action plan for suicide prevention in Denmark.

DRISP is a self-financed unit anchored in the Mental Health Services of the Capital Region of Denmark.

We are a non-profit organisation founded by the Association for Education and Research in Suicide Prevention, which is also one of our long-standing partners.

Suicide is rarely caused by a single factor; it is often the result of several circumstances that may be related to social, psychological, mental, physical, or biological factors. Our research into the understanding and prevention of suicide is therefore wide-ranging.
